Registering for your big day can seem daunting. Maybe not even fun after you hear all the do’s and don’ts. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying this exciting wedding activity. There is no reason this should give you anxiety. Here are some of the most common “rules” that we are setting straight!
#1 You have to buy china
When was the last time anyone you know invited you over to dinner and they used their fine china? Aside from your mom, probably not many. Get dishes you see yourself using on both special occasions and everyday. Start off with simple patterns and neutral colors. This will allow you to “dress” them up for various holidays or use as is for any day.
#2 Registering for too many gifts makes you look greedy
Not at all! Guests appreciate the options when they go to pick out your gift. Varying price points are good as well. Don’t shy away from something expensive. People go in with a group more and more these days and are able to afford something expensive.
#3 It’s rude to register for “cash”
These days there are so many “non-tacky” ways to register for money and not “things”. You can register for Honeymoon activities or use a variety of websites that let you receive cash gifts. When it comes time to register don’t be afraid to explore this option. Talk it over with your fiance and decide what works for you both!
#4 You can’t return or exchange any gifts
Personal tastes and needs change. The chances are that after your long engagement and setting up your new space the items you thought would work just don’t. Don’t be afraid to get what works for you. Sometimes registries don’t update right or someone forgets to make the gift they got. Therefore duplicates happen. Don’t feel bad about taking one back!
